“OLD LOVE”

Gallery

The “Old Love” Collection was inspired by my grandparents.

They were married for more than 50 years. I have fond memories of their subtle playfulness, and warmth towards each other. I was young then and wasn’t sure what it was, but there was always something about their connection that moved me. I will never forget my grandad in his wheelchair, holding my nan’s hand, and repeating her name tearfully, as she lay in the open casket. I am sure a part of him died with her.

I guess they were my blueprint. They didn’t have an easy life. They lived through wars, rationing, and separation. Somehow they made it through. To this day seeing older couples moves something inside me. Small gestures of affection, holding hands, a stroke of the cheek. Small moments of tenderness, rather than big gestures.

Truly seeing each other.

One Hundred Love Sonnets: XVII , BY PABLO NERUDA

I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where.
I love you simply,
without problems or pride;
I love you this way,
because I do not know
any other way of loving than this,
in which there is no I or You.
So intimate that your hand upon my chest is my hand,
so intimate that when I fall asleep,
your eyes close .
